4-Ingredient French Onion Crock Pot Pot Roast

4-Ingredient French Onion Crock Pot Pot Roast

  • Total Time: 8 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 pound beef chuck roast
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry French onion soup mix
  • 10.5 ounce can condensed French onion soup
  • 1 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Roast Place the beef chuck roast into the bottom of your slow cooker. If the roast is too large to fit flat, you can carefully cut it into two smaller chunks to ensure it is evenly submerged in the liquids later.
  2. Step 2: Season the Meat Sprinkle the entire packet of dry French onion soup mix over the top of the beef. Use a spoon or your hands to lightly press the seasoning into the surface of the meat so it stays in place when the liquids are added.
  3. Step 3: Add the Liquids Pour the condensed French onion soup and the beef broth over and around the sides of the roast. Do not worry about stirring at this stage, as the flavors will meld together naturally as the meat releases its juices during the slow cooking process.
  4. Step 4: Slow Cook to Perfection Cover the crock pot with its lid and set it to cook on the low heat setting for 8 to 10 hours. The long, slow cook time is essential for breaking down the tough fibers in the beef, resulting in a tender meat that pulls apart easily with a fork.
  5. Step 5: Shred and Serve Once the meat is tender, remove the roast from the pot and place it on a large platter. Use two forks to shred the beef into bite-sized pieces, then return it to the slow cooker to soak in the French onion gravy for 10 minutes before serving.
