Hi there! I’m Juliana Carter, but everyone calls me Julia. I’m a 38-year-old homegrown American from Asheville, North Carolina, and I believe with all my heart that cooking should never feel like a chore. It should feel like jazz on a Sunday morning—casual, creative, and a little bit improvisational.
My earliest kitchen memories are with my grandmother, who had this way of humming old gospel tunes while stirring her famous chicken and dumplings. I used to sit on the counter, legs swinging, pretending to help, but really I was soaking in every moment, every aroma, every sprinkle of seasoning she so effortlessly tossed in. That kitchen was my playground, and I never grew out of it.
I didn’t go to culinary school, and I don’t wear a tall white hat. What I do have is years of trial and error, heaps of cookbooks with dog-eared pages, and a pantry that’s seen more spontaneous experiments than I can count. I’ve burned my fair share of dinners, learned what not to do with a blender and hot soup (ouch), and discovered that the best dishes come from a place of curiosity, not perfection.
Cooking, to me, is about joy. It’s about making something from scratch with your own two hands and seeing the smile it puts on someone else’s face. I started sharing my simple, feel-good recipes online a few years ago, hoping to help others feel that same spark. My style? Think comfort food with a twist—meatloaf with a barbecue glaze, skillet mac and cheese with a crunchy garlic crumb topping, banana bread laced with a hint of chai spice.
If you’re just getting started, know this: your kitchen is your canvas, and there’s no such thing as a perfect cook. Only joyful ones. I’m here to make sure you’re never intimidated by a recipe and always inspired to tweak it to your taste. Let’s have fun, make some delicious messes, and bring a little extra joy to your table. Welcome to my kitchen!
